Flashrip's Fables

Following the meandering path of my pursuit of a few running goals.Running was meant to be a 2 year plan to learn a new skill but a few injuries has forced me to extend the 2 year plan.

As My Forerunner Gazes Longingly

I finally woke this morning feeling human again.Almost 2 weeks of the worst coughing fits I've witnessed let alone felt. All stemming from leaving my fan on during an exceptionally hot night.I'm blaming my lack of immune strength on my lack of running. There is always a building site in action around where I live (Cabarita) and the dust it generates has my coughing to the point of dry reaching - often at 2 or 3am.

I finally have a measure of progress with these wretched little exercises the physios have me doing.Using a Swiss ball and making a bridge by taking my weight on the ball with my shoulders and legs bent at 90deg.Hold this position until the hamstrings come into play which means the glutes are fatigued - much harder when Wang or Murph (my cats) decide to jump onto my belly. At last I feel as though I can measure some progress and in turn, derive some motivation from it rather than the blind faith required in the past.

Huge storm here yesterday afternoon has caused a short in either my PS2 or TV.I had the amusing sight of watching water run out of the PS2 when I lifted it off the carpet. It's the 3rd time the TV has been watered so it must be on its last legs soon.I feel an insurance claim coming on and a new LCD TV calling to me.

It's been hard reading all the CoolRunner posts on the upcoming 6FT Track race.I was sure I was going to go under 5hrs this year with even the same amount of training as last year. The knowledge of where to push and where to conserve and the extra motivation to run more long hill sessions would have easily cut the 14min off last year's time.I am really looking forward to the day when I strap the Garmin Forerunner watch on and start some form of training.

Off to work now to try to maintain the rage in our ever increasing weight loss program.Soon to be taken overseas with the help of AusTrade.

When Intermittent Pain Is Good

Pain from an injury is a strange thing when you take heart in the fact that it is no longer constant. When it was constant I used to get used to it and wouldn't feel it unless I did something unusual like running. Now I notice it when I get out of bed, out of the car, swim etc.In other words , I'm happier despite the fact that I am noticing it more.
Tomorrow sees my 2nd visit to Valerie the physio.I feel like I haven't improved more than 2 0r 3 % in the last week so my hope of her telling me to start running is just ludicrous.
The swimming I did last week hurt every time I swivelled to take a breath.
Outside of my running world I am a pharmacist.Business is very good despite the fact we have a discount pharmacy operation about 9 doors down the road.As the textbooks say, we have looked for a niche market (feckin textbooks don't tell us how to find this 'niche')and found it with a weight loss program. Thanks to Today Tonight TV coverage last year we have been going gangbusters with this niche for almost 2 years now.
But I want to be running.

Waiting Forlornly

It's still 4 days until I get to see physio Val again and I don't think I can go another day without some form of exercise.I decided to buy another pair of goggles and swim some laps tomorrow.Do you believe in omens - I do.Rebel had 50% off goggles today so I know I made the right decision!Heaven knows whether I can complete a lap tomorrow but with 33deg predicted at least I will be in the right environment.
Surely a few laps can't hurt the back? With all the benefits they say comes from swimming?I'm sure I'm not going to delay my recovery.
Mainly focussing on protein with every meal to aid recovery with the meagre amount of exercises I'm doing - found (at last)a measure of core stability on the net.Performing a "bridge with only one leg on the ground for 30sec in reps of 3 if done perfectly will represent adequate core stability to avoid injury".
Getting tired of reading the CoolRunning site about runners and their achievements.

Let's Get Serious

Today begins my recording of my running and what happens in between runs. It's 6th Feb 2005.I am an injured runner that over the last year has become somewhat of a reluctant reviewer of physios and massage therapists.
My current physio, Val Kwok has given me both a good vibe of her abilities and a week off from any form of training.
I feel like I should be swimming or walking or stretching or exercising or SOMETHING but the faithful friend that is my SIJ pain reminds me to listen to Val.I'm sure this interruption in my training will make me appreciate full on training when I get back into it ....soon.
I decided to go for a swim but it's been so long since I last used my goggles, they have evaporated to that alter universe that also contains many socks,2 watches and about 3 pairs of really good sunglasses. So I'm stuck here until it's time to go to work with the Lads (Wang and Murphy my 2 blue Burmese cats - great mates).
