Flashrip's Fables

Following the meandering path of my pursuit of a few running goals.Running was meant to be a 2 year plan to learn a new skill but a few injuries has forced me to extend the 2 year plan.

It's Time To Come Out

As my rehab goes along suspiciously well my competitive nature starts to whisper in my ear.I'm sure every once injured runner knows the temptation in doing too much too soon.Unfortunately for my rehab I have a stubborn, competitive streak in me that can resist many things but not the chance of 'running' in my new CR t-shirt at the most beautiful of 10k courses in Sydney this weekend. After this last run I am tempted, SOOOO TEMPTED, to revise my target time for the Striders 10k.
I had a minor hitout on the bay run yesterday and averaged 5m18s over 7.24km- I had a ball!I did the last 1km in 4m38s into the (mild) wind then spent the next 15min feeling guilty that I had given in to temptation; so I stretched for these 15min as penance.
I would be lying to us both if I said I was twinge free after the run.Twinges are so much more bearable than the 'dead leg' pain I have been accustomed to feeling after a run and the 'old man' feeling in between runs.As I write this, I feel like I could easily run another bay run without straining at all.
So the next few days will be spent negotiating between the competitive and the careful, the rugged and the rigid, the playful and the purposeful etc, to see what my ambitions will be for North Head. The only certainty is that I will finish the last km determinedly hard.

I read your email re injury with interest, Flashrip; all the more reason to be careful this weekend for the Striders 10km as well as running in your new CR t-shirt! To use your own words: be purposeful & careful!

Good post Flashrip, although as a fellow 40 year old, you are not permitted to feel like an old man for another 40 years!
Try not to think and plan too much for the Striders 10k, run to your capacity on the day rather than for a time.
Enjoy your forerunner and keep us informed.
